Tom Hanks is one of my favourite actors of all time…he has an ability to take almost any role and make it his own. Definitely a skill not held by many actors these days.

Phil, talk about boring, wait till you read my thoughts of the Sony conference. Also, built in Wi-Fi IS a big deal to a lot of people. Just check out the Xbox forums and you’ll see lots of people wanting this feature. I am in agreement with you on the Blu-Ray. It’s long overdue.

Yawn. So, basically Microsoft announced they are now a Wii, only without the remotes! I have to say, having a tangible object in my hands makes the motion system much more enjoyable. But, either way you cut it, motion control systems are a gimmick. That’s it. That’s true of the Wii, and will be for the PS3 and Xbox. When I am playing my Wii, I most often opt to use my Gamecube controllers, as I enjoy that much more than standing for hours on end waving my arms around.

And the slim? Wow, way to drop the ball. Built in Wi-Fi! BIG DEAL. Where is the Blu-ray?

Not a very memorable presentation. Other than I’ll remember how boring it was.

At least all got to see Cirque-du-Soleil. With ponchos…

Wow! Nintendo rocked! By far a super presentation. I am very excited about the 3DS. The line-up of games for it is simply amazing. I cannot believe that Nintendo (still have to see what Sony comes up with) is on tap to blow the other guys away this year at E3!

The Dragon Quest game is AMAZING! My wife is in the middle of it (the Japanese version, natch) right now and said it’s one of the best. DK Country on the handhelds has been great, and this one only looks to add more to that franchise.

The goofs during the Zelda presentation are nothing. The game isn’t coming out until 2011 after all, and they will have ample time to tweak all the bugs out.

I’m still questioning weather the 3DS will come first, or the iPhone 4? Argh. Decisions decisions…

Phil, If the games you mentioned are currently avaliable on the Mac already (as in retail), then they may eventually find their way to steam. Good for all Mac “gamers”.

You may want to keep your PC around though. There is such a vast library of PC games that are not on Steam or may never be. If you want to check out some classics (like the Thief series), or play the latest FPS games (like Crysis 2), you’re going to need a PC.

What? No comments about the paid subscription for online play? No comments about no USB? No comments about no handheld gaming system? Other than that, good article.

Either way, I’m sure there are other things that Microsoft failed on, but would simply be nitpicking if I were to mention them.

Can’t wait to see the other two consoles covered here! Both PS3 and Nintendo have their fare share of failures also!

I think the excuse that “The majority of players just don’t care about backwards compat” is a very uneducated excuse. Any one with common sense and half a brain would see that even Sony doesn’t believe that (even if it IS true). How you may ask? Simple. They offer PS1 games for DL in the PSN Store!!!! If people didn’t care about BC for a last generation game, then why waste time, bandwidth, money, and other resourses to provide PS1 games????? (In fact, neither Nintendo nor Microsoft believe this fallacy as well!).

The reason is simple. Money. At some point they will release a patch (that’s all the 2nd gen PS3’s had in regards to BC was a software emulator) that will allow the current models to play DL PS2 games from the PSN store.

The only disagreement I have with the above points is in regards to the paid subscription. They have said nothing will change in regards to the current online system. It will be added features (early access to demos, free game downloads, discounts in the PSN, and…..special Home only features…yawn). SO in that, they have one up over Xbox. Currently, you get both systems to do nearly the same thing as far as online goes, only it’s free on the PS3. And after the sub, that will still be true. Everything else? Yep, Epic Fail…

Excellent article! I think the thing that will keep Nintendo alive will be it’s franchise games. People with families, even after Natal/Move, will still plunk down the all might dollar for a Mario game, a Donkey Kong game, or, a “party” game. For those who are older, a Zelda game, a Metroid game, and Super Smash Bros.

Of course, I think the best move for the big “N” would be to allow “cloud” gaming with the DS. So if I begin playing the latest Metroid game on my Wii, I can then pick up where I left off using the stylus and my DS when I’m out and about, and return home that night to continue on my Wii.

Of course, after news of the newest Zelda game, Dragon Quest game, and other big name franchises all being DS games, they may just be prepping to dump the Wii in favor of the handheld market. Then again, Playstation is rumored to have the PSP2 ready to go, complete with touch screen and motion contols! Oops. Maybe Nintendo is dead.

Now if only Left4Dead will appear, I won’t have much reason to boot into my PC! And if they begin to support Steam Downloadable games such as the Witcher, my life will be complete! Hopefully Mass Effect and Dragon Age will also see the SteamMac love?????

Good article by the way. Glad to see that not all PC gamers are truly Mac Haters!
